My Top 5 Documentaries about the Environment

My Top 5 Documentaries about the Environment

This week I thought I would share my favourite documentaries and docuseries which have educated me on the impact of different sectors on the environment and the people involved in these. From the food industry to fast fashion to plastic consumption, as well as some just documenting the incredibility of nature, here are my favourites.

Our Planet:

Narrated by David Attenborough (so you already know it’s good), this incredible show on Netflix explores the different ecosystems in a beautiful eight-part docuseries. From jungles to deserts, this show has captured incredible scenes of nature, as well as some harrowing moments which remind us why we need to protect our planet.

The Price of Fast Fashion:

This educational documentary on BBC iPlayer discusses the impact of fast fashion on the environment and follows the process the clothes go through. From the initial design to the cotton growers and the factory workers, this documentary tries to uncover who is really trying to do something to reduce the environmental impact of this culture.

Our Planet Matters - Plastic Not Fantastic:

This short BBC docuseries is a funny yet educational look at the impact our daily plastic consumption has on the planet, and how easily we can change our habits. With only three episodes, roughly ten minutes each, this docuseries explores how to have a zero-waste night out, a zero-waste makeup and skincare routine and a zero-waste period. This is a great lighthearted look at how you can make a difference in your daily life.

The True Cost:

This Netflix documentary explores the impact the fast fashion industry is having on the workers who are at the front lines of this demanding market. It also explores the health and environmental implications and shows the damaging effects fast fashion is having. This is definitely a must watch, and really puts into perspective why we should be asking “who made my clothes“ each time you see an item you want.

Climate Change - The Facts:

This is an informative documentary which looks at the impact climate change is having on our environment, the animals living in it and people at the front lines of the impact. This is an enlightening and extremely necessary discussion on how detrimental our impact on the planet is. It’s also a new documentary, so the information and situations involved are all current and happening right now.

I hope you find these documentaries thought-provoking and that you learn something from them, let me know what your favourite documentaries are down below!
